Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) student Suzhane Faith D. Alberto wins first place in the recently concluded Accountancy Team Extemporaneous Speaking Tournament during the 38th Annual National Convention of the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (NFJPIA) last July 15, 2021.

Alberto and her partner, Faye Allen Matas of the Ateneo de Davao University, represented Region 11 in the tournament. They bested 12 other pairs of students coming from different schools all over the Philippines and also clinched the award for Best Speakers.

“If there’s something that couldn’t be taken away from me in joining non-academic competitions, it is the experience I have gained in Jose Maria College and from the trust of COBE Department and NFJPIA-Region 11. I’ll be forever grateful,” Alberto quoted.

Meanwhile, Ralph Conrad Panti, Alberto’s mentor, also expressed his joy and gratefulness over his student’s triumph.

“Honestly, it came out as a surprise victory. A month ago, she messaged me that she wanted to try for the experience, and I fully supported her. But little did we expect that from that moment, great things were bound to happen as what I always keep on telling Suzhane if it’s meant for you, then it is for you. Just enjoy and savor each moment. There is more to gain in trying rather than by not trying at all,” Panti said.

Moreover, Panti also assured that a lot more is in store for BSA students in JMC, “For BSA students, we can expect more exciting events up ahead. Our JMC JPIA Officers have been actively participating in the council. I also encourage our students to try because it’s a good learning experience.”

NFJPIA holds national conventions semi-annually, gathering Accountancy students from all over the Philippines. Technical Sessions update members with relevant information about the profession to supplement their curriculum. Inter-scholastic and inter-regional competitions are held as well for both academic and non-academic events.
