Students taking Filipino 1: Sining ng Pakikipagtalasan, Filipino 2: Pagsulat sa Disiplina and Filipino 3: Retorika competed in the Balagtasan event during the Buwan ng Wika Culmination held at the JMC 4TH Floor Extension.
Balagtasan, a Filipino form of debate done in verse, highlighted the Buwan ng Wika Culmination on September 4, 2016.
Samahang Filipino (Samafil) Moderator Remedios Lugao said that the activity seeks to harness the potential of the students in oral communication making use of the Filipino language as more and more learners have been found deficient in terms of communicating the national language.
Unlike the traditional balagtasan, participants found the competition very interesting and engaging because it was done in free verse and contemporary approach of delivery was incorporated.
Kami ay malaya na nakikipagbalagtsan at walang alituntunin na sinusunod,” a freshman student said in an interview.
Samafil is looking forward to mount more and new events for next year’s culmination.
