The Jose Maria College Mass Communication Program won second place in the video advocacy competition tilt conducted by Ateneo De Davao University Humanities and Letters Division on August 2016.
The competition gathered students taking communication major in Davao City to showcase their works which basically call for peace process in Mindanao.
The organizers, in an interview said that communication plays a vital role in nation building by propagating peace in the country and to prevent conflicts to escalate.
“We highly commend the efforts of the participants and for responding to our invitation. We believe that they also have recognized the power of the visual medium in conveying the message of peace and to influence the citizen of this country to the same,” Mr. Raul T. Reyes, one of the organizers said.
The material produced by the Mass Communication students was inspired from the poem written by a contemporary Filipino poet Lolito Go entitled Parada ng mga Bayag and interpreted by BAMC Program Head Mark Narreto in his Theater Arts and Production class.
“The poem is all about the incessant outcry of the members of the media in the 7th commemoration of the Maguindanao Massacre demanding the government to fast track investigation to achieve justice the family of the victims deserve.
