EMC student lands 1st place among 54 entries in DRDP digital poster making contest

DAVAO CITY, Philippines–A JMarian student of the Bachelor of Science in Entertainment and Multimedia Computing (EMC) program of Jose Maria College Foundation, Inc. wins 1st place in the Davao Regional Development Plan (DRDP) Digital Poster Making Contest.

It was in time when Apple Mae Chan had to juggle preparing for their prelim exam and competing in the said contest. This makes the win more special considering that on the end of Chan, the invitation was sent at short notice.

That is how Janette Claro, MIT, the program head of the College of Information Technology Education (CITE) Department, narrated their glorious victory as she also expressed her overwhelming joy over the win.

“We have not yet started teaching our students the professional subjects, especially multimedia but their skills in arts/design are already advanced,” Claro said.

According to Claro, she is grateful that she can foresee that soon they will turn their passion into profession years from now. She even noted that this is the “best gift on Teachers’ Day ever”.

Meanwhile, Claro shared the technical assistance provided for Chan.

“In terms of technical assistance, our student has her own digital drawing equipment in crafting her masterpiece. The output was from her own concept/idea based on the given theme. We provided feedback on her design elements, suggesting improvements in layout or content arrangement,” Claro added.

When asked about the concept that guided Chan in crafting her winning masterpiece, “Paglambo”, she shared that she based her concept on the video presentation of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) XI’s six-year-strategic plan.

“NEDA-XI provided some helpful ideas that inspired me in creating my own design. Solely, I focused on the theme and trusted my abilities and creativity to where it would take me. And with my strong passion and determination, I was able to create a winning masterpiece,” Chan said.

There were 54 entries from Davao Region in the event organized by NEDA XI.

The theme of the Event is “Youth in Action: Leading Inclusive Transformation for a Sustainable Davao Region”. The accolade was awarded on Oct. 6, 2023 at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) Gym in Obrero, Davao City.
